There are so many misconceptions about this city and the people who live, work, love, play, and travel here. If just one person reads this blog and decides to come here on an adventure, than to me, this is a success.
Here is my story:
I graduated from college a year early from Baylor University with what I thought was QUITE an impressive resume (haha). I packed my suitcases (way too many of them), flew to Los Angeles, got in my brand spankin' new Mini Cooper - my graduation present from mom and dad - and drove to Burbank. On the way there, to meet my new roommate for the first time, the three of us were so terrified we very nearly turned around.
After a little craigslist shopping, three trips to Ikea and 3 trips to In n' Out later, my parents were gone and I was ready to conquer the world. I was going to be a producer (obviously), I had a thousand stories to tell. I was probably going to be best friends with celebrities (isn't everyone?) and, did I mention, live in a huge house in the Hollywood Hills by age 25?
I convinced my then boyfriend (now husband) to move from NYC to LA without a job, an apartment, and without knowing a single soul besides myself. He is an east coast boy, who had just graduated from the Culinary Institute of America who didn't think any restaurant in LA could touch NYC.
One stabbing of a neighbor in Koreatown later, Bill and I decided to bite the bullet and pay the painfully expensive, gouge your eyes out kind of rent to live in the lap of luxury, 4 blocks from Robertson Blvd.
We have a few homeless buddies on the block. One has the friendliest Pit bull you have ever met. Another man stands at the corner of La Cienega and Beverly (you have probably seen him) and he waits every day for the President of the United States to call. He picks up the phone 'Mr. President?' and gives us a friendly wave.
After an incredible fairy tale wedding with 300 of the people we love, we made our first home as a married couple here. I am not going to lie, occasionally we eat peanut butter sandwiches for a week to save after buying some killer piece of furniture at the Melrose Trading Post or the Pasadena Flee Market, but it's worth the sacrifice because we absolutely love to entertain. We have sangria parties, holiday events, and friends over at all times.
Bill and I both have our dream jobs, our babies Sadie and Tigerlily, incredible friends and we are ready to conquer the LA world!
I have a lot of people who are thinking about moving out to LA meet with me to talk about life here. I want to show them what they have to look forward to! I hope to cover all kinds of things on here, post awesome apartments I find, pets to rescue, places to go, and things to see and do.
:)
